A day on the first floor
Shaded from above, lifted off the road, and the cheapest way into the building.

Quieter than the ground floor and cooler than the second. One flight up is enough to put the street's dust and most of its noise below you.

Light comes in from both faces of the building. The first floor is the only one with a full storey above and below it, which makes it the most thermally stable home in the townhouse — slowest to heat, slowest to lose warmth.

The second floor's slab is taking the direct sun, not yours. In a Lahore summer that difference is measured in electricity bills, not in comfort alone.
- Afternoon
Cross-ventilation on both faces. With the right two windows open this floor moves air without a fan, which is the sort of thing that matters during load-shedding.
- Evening
One flight down to the street, one flight up to nothing. You are in the middle of the building, which means you hear both neighbours a little and neither much.
- Winter nights
The warmest of the three. Heat rises into you from below and is held in by the floor above.
This floor suits
- Buyers for whom the price is the deciding factor — this is the lowest of the three
- Anyone who has spent a Lahore summer under a bare roof slab and does not wish to repeat it
- Small households who do not need outdoor space
- Light sleepers who want off the street without climbing to the top
This floor does not suit
- Anyone who wants outdoor space of their own
- Households for whom two flights of stairs a day is already too many, since there is no lift
Worth knowing before you buy this one
Why this floor is cheapest
Because it has neither the street door nor the roof. It is not a lesser build, a smaller floor, or a worse position — it is the floor with no exclusive extra attached, and it is priced for exactly that.
The summer argument
This is the strongest practical case for the first floor and it is rarely made: the floor above you is your roof insulation, and it is a whole storey thick. Compare July electricity bills with anyone living directly under a slab.
